Bringing home a new baby can change the entire rhythm of a household, and that includes life for the family dog. Some pets take time to adapt to the new sights, sounds, and schedules, while others seem to embrace their new role right away. Before long, they’re following the baby around, keeping watch during naps, and treating every blanket-covered bundle like their most important responsibility.

That was exactly the case for Stella, a deaf rescue dog whose devotion to her family’s baby was captured in a heartwarming video shared by his mom, @danilyndesign.

In the video, Stella can be seen sitting attentively beside the baby while he relaxes inside a small tent set up in the yard. Her posture and attention make it look as though she is on guard, ready to step in if anything were to disturb her tiny companion.

An on-screen caption reads, “Just a deaf rescue puppy and her baby.” Although Stella cannot hear, that does not appear to affect the strong connection she has formed with the child. If anything, her actions suggest she is highly aware of where he is and what he is doing at all times.

According to the baby’s mother, Stella’s devotion extends far beyond the brief moment shown in the video. She explained that wherever the baby goes, Stella follows. Whether he is indoors, outside, or simply spending time with the family, the puppy prefers to stay nearby. The mom said Stella quickly embraced the baby and has since developed the “sweetest relationship” with him.

If you’re introducing your dog to a new baby, it’s important to focus on building positive experiences from the beginning. Before the baby arrives, it can be helpful to gradually expose your dog to new sounds, routines, and baby items. Try to maintain your pup’s normal schedule as much as possible so they don’t associate the changes with stress or uncertainty. Importantly, reward calm behavior around the baby and make sure your dog still receives plenty of attention, exercise, and affection. At the same time, as your child grows, teach them how to respect a dog’s space and body language.
