In a new video, Instagram user @big.head.boys introduces viewers to Guppy, a rescue dog whose journey to her new home has been anything but easy. Guppy’s owner shared that adopting again was not an easy decision. After losing their previous dog, Simon, they spent months unsure if they were ready to go through that emotional process again.
Over time, however, that hesitation slowly gave way to openness. Now, a heartwarming video captures their newly adopted shelter dog experiencing her surroundings for the first time.

Guppy’s story began when California Bully Rescue stepped in to save her from a shelter in Sacramento. She had been found as a stray and was in poor condition, likely having been used for breeding before being abandoned.
Severe ear infections had left her ears swollen, and she eventually required surgery to remove the damaged ear canals. As a result, she is now partially or fully deaf. Despite her past, Guppy has shown a calm and gentle personality. Her new owner had initially planned to adopt a smaller dog, but didn’t expect to connect with one quite like her.
Weighing around 35 pounds, Guppy quickly proved that size has little to do with presence. Her easygoing nature helped her bond with Bub, the family’s other dog, who took his time warming up but soon began playing with her.
The latest video shows the shelter dog perched comfortably in a backpack, riding piggyback on her mom’s back, during an outing post her adoption. With her head peeking out, she quietly observes the world around her. She takes in sights, sounds, and movement in a way that feels both curious and calm.
A caption on the screen reads, “Just a newly adopted shelter survivor surveying her queendom.”
Her owner shared that Guppy is still adjusting physically, as her small legs tire easily. To make sure she can still join daily adventures, they use a backpack and a stroller. The approach seems to be working. The pup is gradually settling into her new environment, adapting to what her owner describes as “ranch dog life.”
At home, her bond with Bub continues to grow. While she brings an energetic and sometimes quirky personality, she also seeks constant closeness, often trying to snuggle up to him. For her owner, the transition has been reassuring. What once felt uncertain now feels like the right decision.
